10 Great Characters Ruined By Terrible Sequels

7. Emmett - Legally Blonde 2

It Chapter Two Pennywise
MGM

When the charming Reese Witherspoon vehicle Legally Blonde arrived in cinemas the film was a smash success and there's denying that the story of Elle Woods deserved all the acclaim heaped at its feet.

Following a light-hearted but razor-sharp sorority sister who becomes a lawyer despite the expectations of everyone around her, the film has a funny script and features one of Witherspoon's best-loved comic turns. It also benefits from the presence of Idiocracy star Luke Wilson as Elle's competent, supportive love interest Emmett.

A laidback charmer, Wilson makes a perfect foil for Woods, with his tentative flirtations balancing her bombastic presence.

So how does he fare in the sequel?

Who knows!

Emmett is inexplicably made a complete non-entity in the film's follow up, the less-loved Red White and Blonde. Outside of an opening and closing scene appearance which seem to exist solely to reassure fans that yes, he does still exist, Emmett is absent throughout the action. It's a poor choice which drags an already flawed sequel down further.
