10 Great Characters Ruined By Terrible Sequels
6. Holly McClane - Die Hard 4.0
Remember the simple pleasures of the first Die Hard movie way back in 1988, when our hero John McClane could simply arrive at a Christmas party and outwit countless well armed not-actually-terrorists?
Before entire cities were taken hostage, before trips to Russia and a convoluted subplot featuring Kevin Smith, the first Die Hard was a tense white knuckle thrill ride which introduced to both no nonsense hero McClane and his smart, self sufficient love interest Holly.
From the moment she drops his name to get ahead in business to the second she has to let go off a company-gifted Rolex to ensure her survival, Holly is the blueprint for love interests who refuse to be damsels in distress and instead take a proactive role in the plot... even if she does end up taking back said name and losing said all-important Rolex in the name of family.
So where is she in 2007's abominable Die Hard 4.0?
Why, where else would the woman who tearfully embraced John and proudly took his name at the close of the first film.
She's nowhere to be seen, having divorced him offscreen at some point.
Inspiring stuff.
