10 Great Comic Book Movies That Capture The Genre Perfectly

6. Kick-Ass

Kick-Ass is one of the rare superhero movies that both fully embraces the silliness inherent in the genre while also satirizing it. The idea that anyone can be a superhero is something that every viewer has certainly thought of before and the film uses that universal thought to build a darkly comedic series of events around its central conceit of everyday people doing extraordinary things. The over the top violence in Kick-Ass also helps separate its connections to any sort of reality but also gives it a very self aware tone. The film features characters that don't behave in the typical fashion of regular superheroes which makes everything that much more enjoyable because the audience is allowed to see superheroes in a different light than they are used to. I like to think of Kick-Ass as the R rated equivalent to the watered down Marvel movies that we so desperately need right now.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
