10 Great Disney Movies You've Probably Never Heard Of

7. James And The Giant Peach

Roald Dahl is the perfect source material for Disney. His stories have great morals, and enough darkness to excite but simultaneously scare children. Additionally, the worlds and characters that he creates are always fun and full of personality.

James and the Giant Peach is an excellent example of his work: it's dark and sinister, but charming and warm. This adaptation - directed by Henry Selick, the same person who helmed The Nightmare Before Christmas - is a blast.

The story follows James, an orphan who lives with his two cruel aunts. Soon things become magical, as he finds a man with magic beans which he gifts to him. These end up turning a peach in his garden huge, and inside he befriends a collection of anthropomorphic bugs. Together they embark on a perilous journey to New York City.

It has a lot of flaws, but overall is an incredibly enjoyable film that isn't too well remembered today. Its songs are a little dull, but the stop motion animation still holds up as artistically excellent, and the story told is a perfect lesson in appreciating what makes you unique.

It also definitely contains some scary moments that haunted those who watched it as a child—making it all the better.
