10 Great Eco-Horror Films You Need To See
3. The Day Of The Triffids (1962)
This is a classic plant-based eco-horror film. The triffids are large mobile plants with carnivorous tendencies and a sentient intelligence that come to earth from meteor shower spores.
They feel very humanoid in that they can walk on their vines and communicate with each other, but their monstrosity is evident in their whip-like poisonous sting that they use to kill people before devouring their corpses. Although their origin isn’t explicitly stated or explained, the main character speculates that they are the result of ingenious biological meddling.
It’s a bit cheesy but the idea of giant killer plants on the loose isn’t exactly comforting.
