10 Great Films From 2015 You'll Never Watch Again (And Why)

1. American Sniper

American Sniper is one of those films that ticks all the Oscar boxes; acclaimed filmmaker Clint Eastwood directing acclaimed actor Bradley Cooper in a biopic about a controversial real-life figure. The film is pure award baiting stuff with some great scenes €“ such as Chris Kyle€™s unbearably tense first kill €“ mixed in with lots of talky scenes designed to display Cooper€™s acting skills. Why You€™ll Never Watch It Again: American Sniper is the kind of thing that reaps award season gold, where ads and posters will be plastered everywhere and people will rush to check it out. Yet like many of those other Oscar bothering movies it won€™t linger beyond the initial hype and - taken purely on its own merits - American Sniper is ultimately a routine drama. The biggest problem is that it sheers the edges off of a divisive figure to portray him as a near flawless hero. The more interesting path would have been to show him warts and all, but the film isn€™t interested in probing that deep. It's a solidly entertaining war movie; it's just not anybodies best work. The only reason anyone would give this a second thought is for the hilarious fake baby scene, and they can always go to YouTube to get their fix of that. Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
