10 Great Films That Take Place In A Single Location

8. Buried

Al Pacino Dog Day Afternoon
Versus Entertainment

Buried is a film entirely set in a coffin, and you can't get much more limited than that. In fact, how the hell do you even make that a movie?

Rodrigo Cortés somehow pulled it off, and the film never cheats. A lot of the running time is spent with Ryan Reynolds on the phone, but at no point does Cortés cut to the other person's perspective. No, he's committed to never once leaving this coffin, and you're there with Ryan Reynolds for the entire 95 minutes.

The film itself is actually a little less scary than you'd imagine, not really playing up the terror of being trapped underground that much beyond the opening few minutes. It really ends up being more of a mystery/thriller than a horror film, with Reynolds and the audience trying to piece together how he got there.

But it still mostly works, and if purely as an exercise in filmmaking, the fact that the movie manages to be exciting the whole way through despite always being in this box is a pretty insane accomplishment.
