10 Great Ghost Movies (No One Ever Talks About)
2. Insidious Chapter 3
Released in 2010, Insidious and its first sequel revived rave reviews (well, for mainstream horror films anyway).
The movie's inventive conceit (“it's not your house that’s haunted. It’s your son”) was sufficient to carry the first two instalments despite some drawn out plotting, although upon a revisit the pair aren’t as scary as critics claimed at the time.
The third instalment of James Wan’s horror franchise, however, was met with mixed reviews and remains unloved even by fans of the franchise.
Which is crazy, as 2015’s Insidious Chapter 3 managed to outdo both its predecessors and provide a genuinely terrifying, tense ghost story in the process.
The film follows a dancer who is confined to bed by a broken leg in the opening reel... thus leaving her trapped inside, where she is soon haunted by a malevolent spirit who she is powerless to escape.
This ingenious premise ensures the heroine often left alone with the terrifying entity in scenes which never feel as contrived or unlikely as the often-unsupervised kids of other haunted house stories.
