Given its limited release, this low-budget horror from writer/director Ted Geoghegan received plenty of critical and audience praise for its atmospheric tension and its homage to 80s horror and in particular the work of Lucio Fulci. We Are Still Here strives to create a fresh take on the haunted house trope; a middle aged couple, Paul and Anne, move to a rustic house hoping the change of scenery will help ease the mourning for their son who was killed in a car accident. Things take a turn for the supernatural when Paul is convinced he can feel the presence of their departed son in the house. Im not one to blindly follow the critical consensus, but a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes should convince you to check this one out; this is a film that starts with a nuanced subtlety, but as new characters join the fray, the pace builds to boiling point.
Most of my time is occupied by reading, staring at a screen, being oppressed by the government and awaiting the return of the Great Old One Cthulhu... I also write a little too.
