Bullies are terrible people.

Picking on those less confident than yourself, just to fill some empty void in your own life? Not cool. But do bullies deserve to suffer for their actions? If so, then how much?

These are the questions central to the 2022 Spanish movie Piggy.

Laura Galán plays Sara, an overweight girl who is the subject of ridicule by her peers. You can see where the name of the movie comes from now, can't you.

One day, Sara watches as her tormentors are kidnapped by a violent stranger. She is faced with two choices - save those who made her lives a living hell or do nothing and potentially condemn them to death.

To use a technical term, that's a real pickle.

Galán goes all in on this role. You can feel the emotional pain exuding from her body as she struggles with that most basic of human needs - self-love. It's a subject that we've all sadly dealt with in our lives, except our self-worth never led to a life or death situation.

Compelling and though-provoking, once you've seen it, you'll want to take this little Piggy all the way home.
