10 Great Horror Movies You Definitely Missed In 2022
2. Watcher
Watcher star Maika Monroe knows a thing or two about appearing in horrors.
After all, she got her big break as the lead character in It Follows, which then led to performances in productions like Greta and Independence Day: Resurgence.
We're counting that last one as a horror because it was so bad.
Ms. Monroe was back in 2022 to head-up Watcher, a film in which she plays a woman who fears she is being stalked by a creepy neighbour. Because this is a horror film, she is being stalked by a creepy neighbour.
Oh, and he's also a serial killer.
The mystery and intrigue surrounding the stalker character is excruciating. We all know he's the villain, but Monroe's character just can't prove it. This escalates and escalates until the truth is finally revealed, by which point it may be too late.
It's not just Monroe that puts in a good performance here. Torchwood's Burn Gorman plays the stalker with a chilling lack of emotion. His matter-of-factness makes the entire process even scarier and even harder to sit through.
In a tense, nail-biting way, we mean. Not in a "Lord, when will this end?" kind of way.
