10 Great Midnight Movies You Need To Watch
1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
As shocking it may be to hear now, at one point, 2001: A Space Odyssey wasn’t the beloved classic and critical darling it is now. Instead, audiences and even most critics didn’t know how to respond to Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi epic, leading to it failing to bring in the numbers at the Box-Office.
Thankfully, Kubrick’s space opera masterpiece found an audience thanks to re-releases. Moviegoers, slowly but surely began to flock to screenings and it soon built up an impressive cult following. In its initial run, it grossed a minimal $8.5 million, but thanks to the home video and theatre re-distribution sales, it has gone on to make as much as $190 million.
Fast-forward to today, and a large number of film critics and people attempting to pass themselves off as cinephiles would argue that it’s the best film of all time. It’s not only considered one of the best and most important films of all time; but Kubrick’s best work as well.
