10 Great Midnight Movies You Need To Watch
9. Night Of The Living Dead
Night of the Living Dead is without doubt one of the most important and influential horror movies of all time. Not only did writer/director George A. Romero change the zombie sub-genre, but his low budget, black and white flick was also one of films to kickstart the midnight movie movement. Heck, without Night of the Living Dead, shows such as The Walking Dead would never have existed.
Upon release, its graphic content and daringness to tackle the subject of race led to calls for it to be banned. Though it had gained a large following in the initial few weeks of release, theatre owners soon pulled it from schedules.
This didn’t stop people wanting to see more and it soon made its way around the midnight screen circuit, becoming an instant success with the fans. Thanks to those that revived it, many have since been able to enjoy Romero’s zombie flick; it also influenced many filmmakers that have heavily borrowed many of his ideas for their own take on the brain chomping walking dead.
