10 Great Moments From Not So Great Movies

1. The Freeway Chase (The Matrix Reloaded)

The Matrix Reloaded The Matrix was a cyberpunk story that revolutionised the action genre with its perception of an alternate reality and Eastern-influenced action scenes. The sequels on the other hand, almost disappeared up their own backside thanks to a combination of tedious exposition, pretension and a seemingly never-ending stream of philosophical nonsense. But at least it gave us the freeway chase. The Wachowskis are nothing if not ambitious, and the production built an entire 1.4 mile stretch of highway for the purpose of the chase scene before spending no less three months shooting it. What followed was one of the greatest action scenes ever staged, utilizing a seamless blend of CGI and practical stunts that featured hand-to-hand and weapon-based combat inside, outside and on top of various vehicles, the destruction of dozens of cars and of course, some bullet time. There were several memorable action scenes in the disappointing Matrix sequels, but the freeway chase tops them all. One of cinema's all-time great chase sequences it was a massive undertaking executed with aplomb. Shame we had to sit through so much cringeworthy horrible dialogue to get there. Like this article? I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
