10 Great Movie Franchises That Lost It By The End

7. Resident Evil

Terminator 2
Screen Gems

Resident Evil is one of the most prolific and popular video game franchises in history. It should be no surprise that it spawned an almost equally long running series of films based on the games.

The first movie was released in 2002 and was followed up with several sequels over the next 15 years. They've continued to be decent box office draws in some markets but have done relatively poorly in North America. Box office success doesn't change the fact that the quality of the movies have gotten increasingly worse, not that the first movie was all that great. At least it was coherent.

As the series goes on, it loses any semblance of a rational story and devolves into an endless parade of mediocre CGI battles. Not that there's anything wrong with that in some cases.

Ultimately, the games are a lot better than the movies.
