10 Great Movie Franchises That Lost It By The End

6. The X-Men

Fox

The X-Men franchise has been on a pretty consistent decline for years, thanks to some very bad choices by the filmmakers.

The first movie released was X-Men in 2000, a solid comic book adaptation that came out before Iron Man and the MCU changed the game eight years later. The second movie, X2, was also pretty good. After that, things were pretty grim starting with X-Men: The Last Stand.

In fact, excluding the Deadpool movies, Logan, First Class and Days Of Future Past, the rest of the film universe Fox put together has been largely terrible that gets way too much of a pass.

The final film developed under Fox's purview before Disney/Marvel took over was Dark Phoenix, a rehashing of their terrible interpretation of the classic comic book story. A convoluted movie timeline combined with terrible production decisions led to his box office bomb and the final nail in the casket for the Fox film franchise.
