10 Great Movie Franchises That Lost It By The End

2. Aliens

Terminator 2
Fox & Rory Kurtz

Just like the Terminator franchise, the Alien franchise peaked with the second film and continues to decline even now. And we can't even blame it on a series of film-makers coming in who didn't understand the original vision, because the creator was back in charge by the end.

The first film is one of the best horror films of all time. The second was an amazing science fiction action horror film. Then the bad times came with every film after that being pretty much terrible, starting with the third chapter that was beset by production issues and ended up feeling like an entirely different series.

The worst movies have been the recent run of prequels which have completely lost sight of everything that made the first two films great. They're spending a lot of time answering questions nobody was asking, and doing a highly unsatisfactory job of it, building a mythology requires fan engagement which is something this franchise lost years ago.
