10 Great Movie Villains With Really Dumb Motivations

Michael Bay loves explosions but he isn’t huge on deep narratives and exciting character dives.

Classic Transformers character Megatron is a real, authentic villain in the other mediums. His belief system is motivated by the oppression of the Decepticons and thus the war between the two factions makes way more sense in the television show. Granted it was all done to sell toys, but at least back then they pretended to care about backstory.

The only thing motivating Megatron in the film is a cube.

Sure, the cube is capable of some real power, but it’s never explained why he’s so attached to it. The story goes he’s corrupted by The Fallen, but even that doesn’t stick for long. At the end of the day, Megatron is just there to be evil, so robots can fight each other and Bay can tilt his camera a lot.

Sadly, fans never asked for more, and that’s why he is given this weak, dumb motivation.
