3. Lord Beckett - Pirates Of The Carribbean
The first three Pirates of the Caribbean films are solid and Cutler Beckett is a solid villain in those movies, complimenting both Davy Jones and Jack Sparrow as a point of order. Without his presence, things feel odd. The only problem is no one is clear why he does what he does.
Think about it for a moment: name the exact thing that drives Cutler Beckett on this wild chase. The answer is impossible to name because it doesn’t exist. No one even knows what the mark is that Sparrow left on Beckett. There’s supposed to be this history between them that makes this villain so evil, but the backstory is never presented to us.
Beckett’s motivation is paper-thin and he tries to take on Davy Jones for no reason other than he hates pirates. Seriously, a little kid can think that one up.
