10 Great Movies About Time Travel

7. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)

Even though Star Trek has given fans numerous brilliant films, few have ever been as inventive and surprisingly great as The Voyage Home.

Directed by Spock icon Leonard Nimoy, the film follows the crew of the USS Enterprise as they travel back to the 1980s in an attempt to find a humpback whale which can answer the call of an invading probe in the 23rd century.

Though this may sound likely an overly goofy premise for a Star Trek movie, The Voyage Home is actually one of the most intelligent and socially conscious instalments of the entire franchise, and also serves as a nice emotional break following the heavy drama of the previous two films.

Incredibly funny in parts, action-packed and acted to perfection, The Voyage Home is both an exciting time travel spectacle, and a Star Trek movie that deserves to be seen as one of the all-time greats of the series.
