One of the most popular time travel plot devices has to be the time loop, a trope which was used to perfection in the recent rom-com Palm Springs.
Starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti as they find themselves trapped at the wedding from hell, the film tackles the time loop idea with fresh eyes and witty humour, making it at once deliriously funny and thematically refreshing.
Even better than the inventive remixing of a nearly play-out plot device, though, is the performances of Samberg and Milioti, whose chemistry is both electric and frequently the most hilarious aspect of the increasingly wacky comedy of errors that ensues.
Of all the recent attempts to mix romantic comedies with the time travel subgenre (and there have been many poor efforts), Palm Springs is easily the most entertaining and intelligent offering you're likely to find.
