10 Great Movies About Time Travel
6. Looper (2012)
A movie which subverts audience expectations is often the best kind of movie, and that's exactly why Looper is so great.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in the sci-fi thriller as a hitman called Joe, whose job involves his targets being sent backward in time for him to dispatch of without evidence of their death. Joe seems relatively content in his work, until his future self (Bruce Willis) is sent to him for execution, and he finds himself locked in a desperate struggle to save a child from a deadly future.
Directed by Rian Johnson and co-starring Emily Blunt and Jeff Daniels, Looper is both challenging and innovative, complete with striking action sequences, numerous surprise twists and a plot which, whilst complicated, never loses sight of the human drama at its centre.
Technically triumphant and brilliantly performed, Looper remains one of the most refreshing and daring sci-fi flicks of the last decade.
