10 Great Movies It’s Cool To Hate

1. The Blair Witch Project

Almost two decades after its release, The Blair Witch Project has a lot working against it. Since 1999 the handheld, found footage thing has been done to death and it’s not really a film that holds up well under repeated viewings although the same thing could be said of many movies, horror and otherwise.

But what feels like a trite gimmick today was a breath of fresh air back in the horror landscape of the late 1990s and despite what the bravado-fuelled naysayers claim The Blair Witch Project was bloody scary – even if those its scares were simple and hinged on disembodied children’s voices and twig figures.

In a glut of found footage horrors, The Blair Witch Project may not be as unique as it once was but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still a great and ground-breaking movie. But please feel free to sh*t on its godawful sequels as much as you like.

Helen Jones hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
