10 Great Movies (That Were Led By Terrible Performances)

10. Transformers (2007)

We are only on the first film and already we are dividing opinion. Michael Bay's Autobots have come under heavy scrutiny in recent times. Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon were terribly self-indulgent and overly-long, and while explosions and fireworks still lit up the screen in humongous proportions, they couldn't capture the heart of the first one. But Transformers was a great time at the cinema. Robot grudge matches levelling cities, mind-blowing special effects, and spectacular set-pieces set it apart as a staple of the popcorn action genre. Kevin Dunn is reliable in his supporting role, and John Turturro gives his only enjoyable performance of the franchise as Agent Simmons. The amount of time the film spends with Shia LaBeouf is torture. Megan Fox is poor but it wasn't her job to act - let's be honest. LaBeouf spends the running-time at top decibel, screaming "BUMBLEBEE" every other scene and dousing us in lukewarm comedic stylings. Bashing Shia might be the hot thing to do at the moment, but his performance here is the epitome of his whole career - whiny bull-crap. At least we get Cybertronians smashing seven shades out of each other!

I love all things imaginative, from the page to the screen, and nurture a soft spot for Donald Sutherland and Daniel Bryan.
