10 Great Movies Starring Sons Of Anarchy Actors
4. Gladiator (Tommy Flanagan)
Tommy Flanagan's role as Chibs starts as an amusing side-part and quickly develops into a far more detailed and conflicted figure.
Bringing this conflict to the fore is Flanagan, who brings raging intensity to the fore at just the right moments. Well before SAMCRO however, Flanagan featured in a very different arena of violence - the Roman Colosseum.
Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott, is widely recognised as the film that rekindled interest in the historical epic. Starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix, it follows a disgraced Roman general who takes to becoming a gladiator to seek revenge against the corrupt emperor who betrayed him. Making an appearance here is Flanagan, who plays Cicero - a servant and friend of Maximus (Crowe).
Cicero ultimately falls foul of the emperor's ongoing corruption and mental decline, but before that behaves with the loyalty and pragmatism that Flanagan would bring to the role of Chibs. As he puts it to Maximus, "sometimes I do what I want to do. The rest of the time, I do what I have to."
Flanagan is also known for his role as the bounty hunter Tullk in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2, and Morrison in Mel Gibson's Braveheart.
