10 Great Movies Starring The Cast Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
6. 17 Again
Is this the most underrated film of the 21st century? No, but the extent to which it exceeded expectations puts it up there. It’s a teen comedy based on that time-tested premise of body swapping and/or time travelling: a former high school jock turned middle aged failure (Matthew Perry) finds himself whipped into the body of his younger self (Zach Efron), where he has the chance to enjoy his glory days once again.
The film follows the rough formula set out by the likes of Freaky Friday, It’s A Wonderful Life, and Back To The Future. The protagonist must use his bizarre vantage point to improve his lot in life, and has the opportunity to help out those around him, including his teenage daughter played by Buffy’s Michelle Trachtenberg. The fantasy-comedy elements admittedly aren’t the most fresh, but the quality cast and wit that bolsters the script makes this a family movie of unusual quality.
Trachtenberg is stuck in a Dawn-adjacent role as a whiny teenager, but she does a fine job in this seriously solid film.
