Amelie is an iconic and lovable French rom-com starring Audrey Tautou as the titular character - a waitress whose isolation causes her to head out to improve the lives of those around her. With a wild imagination and a tragic family past, Amelie is shy, reserved but sweet, and after the death of Princess Diana she resolves to help others find happiness in their lives.

During her travels, which end up being more of a journey of self-discovery as they go on, Amelie rarely speaks, but is comfortable breaking the fourth wall and telling the audience how she feels or what she's seeing.

Amelie breaking the fourth wall gives a sense of sweetness to the character, and helps the audience grow to understand her despite her frequent silence. It allows the audience to form a bond with her, since she only ever really talks to those watching her, and keeps her thoughts hidden from the many characters she encounters.

Amelie is a beautiful character perfectly formed within an equally perfect film, and the fourth wall breaks couldn't be more effective and heartwarming.
