10 Great Movies That Break The Fourth Wall

5. The Wolf Of Wall Street (2013)

The Wolf of Wall Street is the most over-the-top, boisterous, hilarious film of the 2010s, a movie without boundaries and an endless supply of jokes and slapstick humour.

Like The Big Short, The Wolf of Wall Street is a film dealing with big, confusing themes, but thanks to its light-hearted approach to the otherwise bleak subject matter it never finds itself struggling to explain what's going on.

Never lost in the details and always focused on Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his fall from grace, the film features a lot of fourth wall breaks courtesy of its incredibly questionable protagonist.

The breaking of the fourth wall allows the comedy extravaganza to focus more on the events being depicted on screen rather than the meaning or facts behind them. This in turn allows for more quick-fire jokes, insane stunts and indulgence in alcohol and drugs, as well as the occasional forays into effective drama. And it's a rollicking good ride.
