6. Nina Forever
Another unusually sex-based indie horror, this macabre love story from Ben and Chris Blaine centres on a bereaved young man, Rob (Cian Barry), who has attempted suicide following the death of his girlfriend Nina (Fiona O'Shaughnessy). Attempting to move on, he begins a new relationship with co-worker Holly (Abigial Hardingham).
However, just when things start to be working for the new couple, a somewhat unforeseen complication arises: whenever they have sex, Nina returns from the grave to join them. Obviously this makes things a tad bit awkward, and leaves Rob and Holly with some difficult questions to ask about the future of their relationship.
While the premise might suggest a bawdy, trashy comedy, Nina Forever is a surprisingly mature and intelligent look at the problems of rebound romances, with an added jolt of gallows humour thanks to the zombie twist. It's bold, inventive, and more poignant than you might expect.
