10 Great Recent Horror Movies That Not Enough People Have Seen
7. Harvest Lake
Scott Schirmer's 2016 indie takes the over-familiar trope of a cabin in the woods, yet sends it in an entirely different direction, crafting one of the most uniquely erotic horror movies of recent times.
A group of twentysomething friends venture out to the remote lake of the title for a weekend away, only to unwittingly enter the domain of a sinister entity. However, rather than the more predictable carnivorous beast or masked madman, this unseen supernatural threat goes after its victims via their sex drives, gradually working them into an amorous frenzy as it infects their bodies and ensnares their souls.
While the lo-fi FX betray its ultra-low budget, Harvest Lake is beautifully shot, boasts a wonderfully atmospheric score from Adam Robl and Shawn Sutta, and excellent performances from Jason Crowe, Ellie Church, Tristan Risk, Dan Nye and Kevin Roach.
