10 Great Sci-Fi Films Ruined By Terrible Endings
2. Signs - Water Is Their Weakness
The biggest hit-or-miss director working in Hollywood, M. Night. Shyamalan came close to striking gold once again with his nervy sci-fi Signs. From its sombre opening, the story of crop circles and possible alien invasions allowed audiences to feel paranoid about other-worldly eyes watching them, beading out from the slowly swaying and encompassing crop fields.
Yet as it dramatically builds to its conclusion, Shyamalan misses the mark once again with its odd and disappointing reveal. There are aliens sneaking around across the globe, as they prepare for a worldwide invasion, yet it is discovered their primary weakness is water.
The mysterious slender figures then change from ominously dangerous creatures to buffoons – with the choice of this planet appearing as a catastrophic miscalculation. Along with the conveniently specific habit of half-full glasses of water dotted around the Hess household as a revengeful alien breaks in, Signs falls short of the unearthly quality that the majority of its runtime attained.
