10 Great Sci-Fi Movies Ruined By One Character

7. Pacific Rim - Raleigh Becket

Speaking of giant robots, Pacific Rim is every 12-year-old's dream come true - a movie about huge mech suits smashing into massive monsters in the middle of the ocean.

Sheer juvenile bliss.

The movie was praised by critics and did well enough to spawn a sequel and an anime series. All of this in spite of having one of the blandest main characters in sci-fi history.

Raleigh Becket is the film's protagonist, an ex-mech pilot who is brought back into the fold to help end the war against the kaiju. He's played by Charlie Hunnam, who fans of Sons of Anarchy will know as Jax Teller.

Well, we say "played", but it looked like Charlie put absolutely zero effort into his portrayal of Becket.

Hunnam was untested as a leading man and it shows big time. He fails to deliver his lines with any conviction and stands out like a sore thumb against his co-stars Rinko Kikuchi and Idris Elba.

As a result, Pacific Rim is not nearly as emotional as it should be. That seems weird to say about a big robot smashy movie, but watch it, then you'll see.
