8. The Man With Two Brains (1983)
Steve Martin has been involved with some of the best goofball comedies of all time. None as off the wall as the Carl Reiner directed The Man with Two Brains, though, a sci-fi comedy spoofing the mad scientist aspect of the science-fiction genre. The film tells the story of Dr. Hfuhruhurr (A truly brilliant name for a lead character), a renowned brain surgeon who - after losing his wife - falls for a gold digging femme fatale. Of course, hes cautious about jumping into this new relationship so he does what anyone would do: asks his dead wife for a sign resulted in a great little moment in which the entire house shakes violently to which Dr. Hfuhruhurr simply replies: "Any sign at all. Much of the movies humor is slapstick-ish, with Steve Martin playing the role of the bumbling fool so perfectly one must wonder if Mr. Martin is actually acting. Know this, the movie is more than just sight gags and Steve Martin being whacky - theres plenty of odd plot points to keep you laughing. Telepathy for example, Merv Griffin, a serial killer, and a very romantic afternoon where Dr. Hfuhruhurr and a disembodied brain in a jar share a rowboat. Need I say more?
