10 Great Teen Horror Movies (No One Ever Talks About)
9. My Soul to Take
Okay, so not every film on this list is perfect.
But they don't need to be perfect to have plenty of potential and promise, as evidenced by this less-loved effort from Scream series creator Wes Craven.
The late horror legend's most underrated movie was a 2010 attempt to return to his heyday as a teen slasher icon. As the creator of both Ghostface and Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger, it's understandable that Craven felt compelled to create another memorable villain.
My Soul to Take may be bogged down by byzantine backstory and way too much teen drama, but it has a handful of superb sequences including a phenomenal and deeply creepy tense opening. Meanwhile, great performances from the likes of The Deuce's Emily Meade ensure the teen drama elements are always involving, if overlong.
Whilst this one has its problems, it's still well worth revisiting, even if only for some superb and scary villain design.
