10 Great Teen Horror Movies (No One Ever Talks About)
6. Warm Bodies
On the opposite end of the "cynical to cutesy" teen movie tone scale from Unfriended, Warm Bodies is a 2013 YA adaptation with a similarly sky high concept.
It's Romeo and Juliet... But Romeo is a mostly mute zombie in a world overrun with the undead.
Bring back movies set entirely on laptop screens, right?
Despite how absurdly over-the-top the conceit of Warm Bodies sounds, though, this film from The Wackness director Jonathan Levine is suffused with the same agreeably sweet indie style as that earlier 2008 effort was. With a stellar central turn from Nicholas Hoult, who manages to convince as a lovestruck zombie, the film manages to wring some sweet romantic comedy out of its insane premise.
Yes, like many adaptation it may be overambitious in its complicated story, but at its heart it’s a cute teen rom com with some solid scares and superb supporting work from the likes of John Malkovich, Analeigh Tipton, and Dave Franco.
