10 Great Teen Horror Movies (No One Ever Talks About)

7. Unfriended

Cherry Falls
Universal Pictures

Released in 2015, Unfriended was a truly innovative, if imperfect, teen horror with a killer gimmick.

The whole film takes place in real time on the laptop screen of our main character. From thereon out, this ingenious MTV horror didn’t need to do too much to succeed. Alas, the film was nonetheless met with critical derision despite impressive box office receipts.

With a simple and pleasingly dark, mean-spirited story of a bullying victim seeking bloody revenge from beyond the grave, this one didn't deserve the critical roasting it got.

Okay, yes, it is riddled with plot holes and plenty of "computers don't work like that" nitpicks, but it's got a quick pace, some superbly irredeemable characters, and some inventively gory deaths despite its limited budget. The film's sequel in 2018 proved how hard it is to pull off this conceit, so this one deserves a little credit for making viewers watch a laptop screen without succumbing to bored scrolling, if nothing else.
