5. The Hand That Rocks The Cradle

Curtis Hanson makes a second appearance on this list with a film about yuppie child rearing. After being seemingly, strangely molested by her obstetrician during a pregnancy exam, mother Annabella Sciorra reports him to the medical board. He soon kills himself and his vengeful wife (Rebecca De Mornay) secretly takes the job of Sciorra's nanny, causing rifts within Sciorra and her husband (Matt McCoy) and clandestinely breastfeeds the child.

When mentally impaired gardener Solomon (Ernie Hudson) witnesses this, De Mornay does what a lot of white people did in the early 90s - blaming it on the black guy. This was 1992, the year of the Rodney King riots, and tensions were never higher. Despite an early role from Julianne Moore as an uptight friend and a nifty set piece involving a greenhouse Cradle is completely nondescript.
