10 Great Zombie Horror Movies That Aren't Really About Zombies
3. The Sadness
If you're looking for a no holds barred gore fest that will give you an action-packed runtime with a breakneck pace and plenty of scares, then, boy, howdy, you'd better take a look at this Taiwanese "zombie" movie.
The Sadness follows a young couple as they struggle to survive the onslaught of the Alvin virus and attempt to reunite with each other. This terrifying virus is more than a simple zombie outbreak, as it turns its victims into bloodthirsty maniacs hellbent on killing, raping and all other sorts of horrendous acts.
You will see some genuinely unruly sights if you give this flick a go, as it's filled to the brim with gore and violence. This sense of depravity and gruesomeness gives the whole thing an exploitative quality that will make you sick to your stomach, so don't microwave any popcorn for this one.
Part of what makes the Alvin virus so terrifying is that the victims still maintain aspects of their personalities. This paints the terrifying picture that the infected are being driven to act on their primal urges, meaning some part of this horror was lying dormant in them all along. Yikes!
