10 Great Zombie Horror Movies That Aren't Really About Zombies

2. The Evil Dead Trilogy

The Sadness
New Line Cinema

Okay, look, you're probably thinking right now, "Yes, of course, this isn't a zombie movie; The Evil Dead is a demonic possession story through and through". However, Sam Raimi's classic horror trilogy does reflect the zombie genre in many ways, which makes it feel like a pillar of undead cinema.

In summary, the trilogy follows Ash Williams' misadventures as he has run-ins with the Deadites. These monstrous antagonists are demonic beings brought about by the Necronomicon, and they are hellbent on possessing and feasting on the bodies of mortals.

You can, in many ways, look at the Deadites as zombies with extra steps. They're undead creatures who seek to kill all living things and look just like your typical zombie, albeit with the ability to speak and possess people. Plus, you got to get rid of that head if you want them gone.

The Evil Dead series, in general, has pulpy and over-the-top horror energy that helped turn it into a cult classic. It's one of the most legendary horror franchises of all time and launched the careers of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. Hell, it even led to Raimi putting zombies in an MCU Doctor Strange movie. Bravo, sir! Bravo!
