6. Air Force One: Die Hard On Air Force One
Remember earlier where I subtley suggested that perhaps a second plane based Die Hard movie might make the list, well, here it is. Not only do we get Die Hard on a plane, but that plane is Air Force One and our central hero is the President. That is a brilliant Die Hard double down.
The film sees Harrison Ford play a former soldier turned US President who rejects the opportunity to escape once his plane is seized by a Russian terrorist played by Gary Oldman. Instead, President James Marshall stays aboard and starts taking out the terrorists one by one.
As menacing movie bad guys go, Oldman is always right up there with the best of them and this turn as Ivan Korshunov is no exception. The relocating of the premise to Air Force One is a great twist on the formula, and Ford’s President Marshall is a unique variation on the standard one-man-army trope.
