10 Greatest "Die Hard On A...." Movies

5. Under Siege: Die Hard On A Warship

Under Siege Steven Seagal
Warner Bros.

Of all the movies on this list, Under Siege feels like the most blatant Die Hard clone. Everything about it is set up to mimmick its illustrious predecessor.

Steven Seagal gives a career best performance (make of that what you will) as disgraced Navy SEAL and owner of a truly magnificent name, Casey Ryback. Ryback has taken a different career path now and instead moonlights as a chef aboard a US warship, an entirely plausible conceit I'm sure you’ll agree. When a rogue CIA operative takes control of the ship thanks to a rogue Commander, it’s left up to Ryback to track them down and take the ship back.

Under Siege has plenty of enclosed spaces, an unflappable and seemingly bulletproof hero, a shot where said hero swings away from an explosion and not one but TWO brilliantly charismatic bad guys. Not only do we get Tommy Lee Jones gleefully throwing himself into the role of rogue CIA operative Bill Strannix, but also Gary Busey, captain crazy himself, is on board as the corrupt Commander Krill. Seagal doesn’t quite have Willis’ knack for deliering a zinger, but it’s certainly a thoroughly entertaining Die Hard clone regardless.
