The Howling's transformation sequence is as frightening in 2020 as it was back in 1981. The sequence is so unnerving due to its incredible effects (especially for the 80s) and exquisite costume and makeup design.

Viewers watch as a man’s face starts to bubble and pulsate slowly growing more and more shaggy werewolf hair across his body with every second. Long, sharp claws start to protrude from his fingers and eventually his shirt rips due to his chest physically popping out due to the monstrous size that he grows to in his wolf form.

The most unnerving part of the whole transformation is the fact that throughout the scene the wolfman’s body constantly vibrates and pulsates to the point that it puts viewers on edge as its an incredibly unsettling thing to watch.

The Howling stands up there as a cult classic and is home to this excellent scene where we see the man turn into a wolf with minimal cuts but replaced with superb makeup and special effects which were relatively difficult considering the limitations that filmmakers had back in the 1980s.
