John Carpenter’s The Thing follows a group of researchers in Antarctica as they one day encounter a dog, who turns out not to be a dog but a body stealing, shape-shifting bastard from out of space who has one mission; to murder everything in its path. Badass Kurt Russell is set out with the task to stop this being, but it turns out to be quite a task for him since the monster can take the form of any living creature.

Throughout the narrative viewers are repeatedly horrified due to the shapeshifting nature of the monster as it turns from a dog with tentacles to a man whose head scuttles off like a massive fricken spider. The Thing couldn’t be more perfectly named, as nobody knows where it came from, what it's doing here or where the hell it is due to its spine chilling shapeshifting abilities that has horrified audiences now for four decades.
