10 Greatest British Themed Romance Films

3. Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)

Ahh, Bridget! Every girl can see themselves in her bubbly, daydreaming and haphazard personality and single women everywhere can relate to the ups and downs of singleton life. Starting life as a column in The Independent, Bridget Jones's Diary was then turned into two novels and two feature films. The film is about Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger), a single 30-something in London making her way in the world with the help of her best friends, which she calls her 'urban family'. After making a New Year's resolution to change her life, she starts writing a diary, tries to stop smoking, cut down on drinking as well permanently being on a diet and of course, stop fantasizing about her womanizing boss Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), the bad boy of the publishing world. She also is re-introduced to Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), a childhood friend who is now a human rights lawyer in the city and she slowly starts to realise he is the perfect guy for her. With an amazing performance from Texas born Zellweger and possibly the most hilarious fight scene ever made between Grant and Firth, this is definitely a must-see.
