10 Greatest Captain America Moments In The MCU
4. I Had a Date - First Avenger
The Captain America trilogy was the one Marvel sequence that got better with every single film. Though starting off as a decent war film, installments like the Winter Soldier and Civil War each showed a different version of what war is, both physically and mentally. However, the First Avenger showed that even in its earliest stages, war does have its casualties.
At the end of the film, Cap thwarts The Red Skull only to find out that the only way to save innocent people from dying is to crash land the aircraft he's in. Knowing that the manual descent into the water is a death sentence, Rogers makes one more call to Peggy Carter, with whom he had been having a back-and-forth romantic affair for the entire film.
Even though they will never get together, Steve gives some closure by innocently asking Peggy out on a date. As they begin to make plans to go dancing, the radio cuts out on Steve's end, leaving Captain America's fate in limbo.
But...the film's not over, as Cap wakes up in the future and being unthawed from the ice in present day. As he awakens in SHIELD's office, Steve comes to grips with his surroundings, only to look back wistfully as he mutters "I had a date." The MCU may have just been getting started, but this still stands as some of the rawest emotion ever felt in a superhero film.
