8. Mulan (1998): Death to the Huns
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlgdI88X7XQ">Mulan Avalanche Scene This is another one of my personal favorite Disney movies, and one of the more mature and adult of the Disney films. I have always been a sucker for a story lead by a strong powerful female protagonist (my favorite TV series of all time is Buffy) and even before I found Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Mulan always used to be both my favorite Disney character and my favorite Disney movie. There are many powerful and epic scenes throughout this movie. The first probably being when Mulan decides to take her fathers place at war in a beautifully emotional montage scene set to heart racing and empowering music. The next is probably when Mulan finally proves she is strong enough to equally match (and in fact better) her fellow male soldiers. For me though, the most powerful moment in the entire film (until the end that is) comes when Mulan, using her brains, uses a rocket to pretty much take out all of the invading Hun army, by firing it into a mountain top to create an avalanche. The animation in this avalanche scene is breathtaking (at this point in time one of the best examples of animation in a movie) and the moment is unforgeable. Sure, in reality this was arguably a stupid move which could have had zero effect, and even if it did, would have likely have killed off of Mulan's fellow soldiers... but I think she knew this... and Mulan always was willing to sacrifice herself in order to either save her elderly fathers life, or save the whole of China.
