The original Predator was released in 1987 and followed a team of mercenaries on a mission to rescue hostages from a guerrilla group in Central America. However, on their mission they encounter a extraterrestrial creature intent on hunting them down.

The terrifying Predator also known as the Yautja, was created by special effects makeup artist Stan Winston who previously worked on the other creature blockbuster Aliens. The design of the creature has become an iconic creature in cinema due to its human yet alien features. Before its conception, numerous proposed iterations of the creature were rejected and even during production future action legend Jean-Claude Van Damme was even proposed to play The Predator.

On its original release, The Predator was a major hit in the box office and among critics. It has become a memorable symbol of creature iconography and is hailed as one of the placeholders in creature film history.
