4. Elecktra King
The best foils for Bond are those that manage to get under the skin of the famously unflappable agent. Elecktra King, Bond Girl gone bad, winds 007 up in spectacular fashion, sleeping with him then mocking him with the memory of their intimacy as she attempts to engineer the destruction of Istanbul and the death of M. Sophie Marceaus performance depicts a traumatised young woman concealing a bitter obsession behind a charming exterior. She also does an embarrassingly good job of showing up The World Is Not Enoughs supposed primary villain, the unfortunately bland Renard, as her spiteful glee in revenge blows his dead-eyed hostility off the screen in every appearance. Bonds ruthless execution of her foreshadows the harder-edged tenure of Daniel Craig, and provides the most searing moment in a movie widely-viewed as mediocre, as well as the second-most memorable death of the Brosnan years.
