10 Greatest Ever Minimalist Movie Posters

7. The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight PosterDoaly's The Dark Knight poster will be instantly identifiable to anyone who has seen the movie, and that's without including a direct visual reference to what either Batman or The Joker actually look like. All it takes is an upturned pencil placed against a dark background - Hell, we don't even need the tagline at the bottom - and we know what we're dealing with. The scene Doaly is referencing, of course, is one of the funniest and most memorable in the entire Dark Knight trilogy, where The Joker impales Gamble's lap-dog head-first on a pencil as a "magic trick". We don't need to see the cowl, some clown make-up, the Tumbler, or even any of the peripheral characters; we know exactly what this poster is talking about.
