10 Greatest James Bond Villain Lairs

4. SPECTRE Briefing Room - Thunderball

The briefing room used by SPECTRE to meet and discuss their plans is perhaps the simplest design of any headquarters or lairs seen throughout the entire film series. However, that works completely in its favour as it has no need to be fancy or stylish, and instead focuses on utility. It isn€™t supposed to be a lair to withstand attack or store dangerous weapons, but a meeting place and it excels at that with its high-tech presentation equipment and practical design. What really makes this particular location so special though is the people who use it, SPECTRE is home to such villains as Ernst Blofeld, Emilo Largo, Dr. No and Rosa Klebb. They are some of the most dangerous criminals in the world and they all meet in one room, discussing how best to cause mayhem and extort money. It couldn't really be considered a Bond lair though if it didn't have a few little tricks hidden up its sleeve. In the case of the SPECTRE Briefing Room, it is the fact that every chair is wired up, leaving Blofeld with the ability to instantly kill anyone suspected of betraying the organisation via electrocution. Afterwards the chairs lower into a chamber allowing for henchman to easily dispose of the bodies. Essentially this base is so memorable because of its simplicity and practicality. It does its job superbly and that it is one of the best, and why people continue to copy and parody it within the film industry today.
